Babri Masjid: The Struggle Against Forgetting
View PDF | Print View
December 7, 2007 Yesterday was the fifteenth anniversary of the demolition of 400 hundred year old Babri Masjid, a medieval archaeological edifice, by Hindu fascists. The central security forces sent to protect the monument were strangely, perhaps deliberately paralysed that day to allow the destruction and accompanying immediate communal carnage. In the country-wide pogroms that followed thousands from the minority communities lost their lives and livelihoods. The event also made majoritarian communalism respectable. The struggle against forgetting continues as sections of the mainstream media advocates amnesia and victims await justice. Those interested in revisiting the circumstances of this criminal act and its aftermath which changed the texture of post-Indepence Indian politics forever are requested to visit the sites listed below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AhbyGeTIbQ http://www.geocities.com/indianfascism/bombay_riot/shrikrishna_commision_report.htm About the Author
